Suhum confirms President's nominee for DCE post

Suhum, April 23, GNA - The Suhum Kraboa Coaltar District Assembly on Thursday confirmed the President's nominee for the position of District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area. Mr Samuel Okwabi, 62, a retired educationist, had the endorsement of all the 69 assembly members.

The assembly also elected Mr Festus Ofosu Mensah, a 50-year-old banker, as the Presiding Member, after two rounds of voting. Before the voting, Mr Samuel Ayepey, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayensuano reminded the assembly members that failing to endorse the nominee meant a delay in the development of the area. He therefore urged the members to put aside partisan interest and give the nominee the maximum support adding "Vote in a way that would not show division in the assembly".

Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Eastern Regional Minister, later thanked the assembly members for the confidence reposed in the nominee and for accepting the president's choice. He said such maximum show of support was an indication that the assembly members had the interest and wellbeing of the people they were representing at heart.
