Venue of Asante Akim North NPP Primaries Protested Against

Konongo, May 7, GNA - A group of New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters in the Asante Akim constituency have kicked against the venue chosen to hold the party's primary scheduled for May 8.

The group, including some Zonal chairmen of the party, claimed that Agogo was not suitable for the primary since it would favour the incumbent Member Parliament, Mr. Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu.

The group said it was unacceptable for the primary to be held at Agogo since both the incumbent MP and the Constituency Chairman, Nana Asabre, whom they alleged was in the camp of Mr. Baah-Wiredu, are citizens of the town.

They alleged that the move was a calculated attempt to rig the election and called on the Regional Executives of the party to change the venue. These were contained in a petition issued by the group at a news conference at Konongo on Wednesday.

The conference was preceded by a demonstration which saw the group singing war songs.

Mr. Atta Danso, Zonal Chairman for Konongo Odumase NPP and spokesperson for the group, said he suspected foul play in the decision to hold the primary at Agogo because it had always been held at Konongo since 1992. 07 May 08
