TEIN condemns violence in NPP

Accra, May 29, GNA - The Tertiary Educational Institutions Network, (TEIN), Legon Branch on Wednesday condemned violent acts of the NPP and asked all peace loving Ghanaians to reject the NPP at the December elections for Professor Atta Mills to guarantee national peace and fix Ghana's wrecked economy.

The violent incidents being perpetrated by the NPP nationwide should be of great concern to all Ghanaians interested in peaceful elections this year, it said.

TEIN said it found it incumbent that the acrimony, death threats, assaults and police brutalities during the NPP primaries should not escape the scrutiny of the records they wanted to be compared. A statement signed by Mr. Atia Daniel, TEIN President- Legon Branch said the violent incidents that, had characterized the nationwide NPP primaries and the recently held executive elections of the Tertiary Education Students Confederacy of the NPP (TESCON) were evident that NPP's purported democratic credentials were mere propaganda.

"These violent records of the NPP in the past few months are indications of the fact that the party has a very dangerous and unenviable political history which must be a worry to all Ghanaians." It said NPP's affinity for violence had the potential of destroying Ghana's democracy and plunging this nation into chaos, especially in this election year.

"It is also hoped that this violent acts of the NPP will not be replicated during the general elections in December 2008, especially when (Nana) Akufo Addo loses the elections to Professor Atta Mills", it said.
