Six to contest Asante-Akim South NPP primaries

Juaso (Ash), March 1, GNA - Six people have said they would contest the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries in the Asante-Akim South Constituency. They are the sitting Member of Parliament , Mrs Gifty Ohene-Konadu, Mr Alex Kwaku Korankye, former MP, Mr Asante Boateng, immediate past Constituency Chairman, Mr Charles Nana Yaw Osei, former Presiding Member, Mr Kwabena Nketia Sekyi, businessman and Mr Edmund Oppong Peprah, a lecture= r at the Kumasi Polytechnic.

With barely two months to go for the primary, the aspirants have stepped up their campaign and are crisscrossing the constituency, meeting party members in the various communities to solicit their support. All the aspirants are upbeat and told the Ghana News Agency (that they were confident of victory. Mr Korankye twice lost his bid to stage a come back after his defeat by the incumbent 2000, but said with the enlarged Electoral College, the story would be different this time round. Mr Boateng, who resigned his position as Constituency Chairman in lin= e with the party's Constitution to vie for the parliamentary ticket, insist= s he is the man to beat.
