Press Release On Decision Of So-Called Commitee Of Regional Chairmen

The upper west regional secretariat of the PEOPLE’S NATIONAL CONVENTION-PNC has learnt with great shock and displeasure the latest attempts by self-seeking individuals to take the party and its members to ransom.
It would be recalled that the GNA in Kumasi captured a story attributed to the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the PNC in which He intimated that a so-called Committee of Regional Chairmen had taken over the administrative and organisational functions of the party and would sooner than later among other things put in place an organising committee to superintend the organisation of the impending National Delegate’ Congress of the Party since in their estimation the current National executives have out-run their term of office.
In as much as we agree that our dear party has been undergoing some turbulent and trying times for some considerable period now and the collaborative and co-operative efforts of all well-meaning and loyal party members is badly needed to help put the party on the right footing ahead of the 2012 elections, we in the upper west region unconditionally disagree with and dissociate ourselves from the stance being adopted by the so-called Committee Of Regional Chairmen since we are not aware of any structural arrangements embodied in our party that mandates any such body like a Committee of Regional Chairmen to succeed the constitutionally elected National Executives. Our stance is further boosted by the fact that less than three of the TEN(10) Regional Chairmen of the Party across the country attended and endorsed this position by Mr Thomas Akum-yong and his back-stage supporters and which we consider arbitrary and without basis.
We also take this opportunity to state categorically that there are genuine reasons for which the National Executive are being seen to have over-stayed their term of office since it emanates from a legal suit instituted against the first three highest office holders; Dr Edward Mahama, Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan and Bernard Mornah, Leader, Chairman, and General Secretary of the party respectively and indeed the party as an entity.
As such, instead of muddying the waters further and strangling our dear party the more, we expect Mr. Thomas Akum-yong who also doubles as the First National Vice-Chairman of the PNC to show committed and dedicated leadership by supporting the rest of the National Executives to be exonerated by the Court to pave the way for the long-awaited National Delegates’ Congress of the PARTY to put the PNC in a poll position to contest vigorously the elections in 2012. Thank you most sincerely.
