Political parties asked not to divide the people

Koforidua, April 14, GNA- Political parties in the country have been called upon to do away with divisive tendencies and agree on developmental issues that would move the nation forward.

The Eastern Regional Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church, Rev. Alex Ofori-Amankwah, who made the call in a Good Friday message said, there were many lessons for people to learn from the Easter season and "especially the one being the agreement made between two political heads for the crucifixion of Jesus."

According to him King Herod and Pontius Pilate, at the time of Christ's crucifixion, were great rivals who, never agreed on anything, "but for once, they agreed that Jesus had blasphemed that he was the son of God and therefore needed to be punished."

He said the death of Christ was, therefore, an event that should remind politicians to do away with political divisions on importance national issues and agree on a common goal for the progress of the nation, irrespective of their political affiliations. Rev. Amankwah noted with regret that the message of Good Friday had been preached over and over but the lessons in it had not reflected in the lives of many and urged Ghanaians to reflect on the message of Easter as the way of reconciliation for all factions that had been hit with conflicts.

He called on families to unite and do away with petty squabbles because it was only when families were together that the entire nation could enjoy peace and tranquility and advised the youth also to live upright lives because Christ lived an upright and blameless life in his youth. April 14, 06
