PSG appeals to all to refrain from declaring election results

The Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSG) has appealed to the media and all to respect the laws of the country and refrain from declaring any result that has not been certified by officials of the Electoral Commission.

The Society also urged all and sundry, especially the media, and the political parties, that by law only the EC has the mandate to declare the winners of the Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

A press statement on Tuesday signed by Mr. James Ohemeng Kyei, President of PSG and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Thursday, said the Society was concern about unauthorized declaration of election results by actors in the political arena because it was a potential source of conflict and insecurity.

“As a nation with twenty years experience in democratic governance in the Fourth Republic, we have to learn from our past mistakes and avoid any acts or omissions that have the potential of destabilizing our motherland”, it added.

The society also appealed to the parents of minors on the voter’s register to prevent them from voting on December 7, since that will be another potential source of conflict in the country.

The statement called on the security agencies to work closely with the EC to beef up security at the polling stations in order to effectively manage all possible disagreements that might arise.

It also called on the EC to do all it could to ensure that the process was free, efficient and transparent so as to ensure the credibility and acceptance of the outcome by all stakeholders.
