‘No room for salt MPs’

The Sanaahen of Denkyira Traditional Area, Dr Esiem Kwaakontan II, has emphatically stated that the people in the area would no more collect salt, matches, rice and oil as inducements from aspiring members of parliament (MPs) so that incompetent people would not be voted for during elections.

He said the non-performing MPs and DCEs who think they would bring those items to get the votes of the people of Denkyira should rethink since they would not be tolerated in the 2016 general elections.

According to him, the traditional council would deal drastically with anybody who would be found collecting such items from the aspirants to vote for them (aspirants) in the upcoming general elections.

He added that the area lacks behind in terms of development due to the incompetency of some MPs and District Chief Executives (DCEs) the area had had for some time now.

Dr. Kwaakontan expressed concern about the way the MP and the DCE had refused to visit the area to ascertain the problems confronting the people and how best they could be resolved since they assumed offices as the people’s representatives in Parliament and that of the government’s respectively.

He has therefore advised the MP and the DCE to change their attitude towards the people of Jukwa Krobo.

Dr Kwaakontan gave the warning during the Otupa festival celebrated by the chiefs and people of Jukwa Krobo in the Hemang-Lower-Denkyira (HLD) District of the Central Region.

The festival was also used to mark the three years’ anniversary of his installation as the Sanaahene of Denkyira Traditional Area.

He underscored the need for parents to invest in their children’s education instead of spending huge sums of money to purchase funeral cloths which would not benefit them in future.

The Sanaahene bemoaned a situation where only a few students who passed in last year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) were able to gain admission into senior high school (SHS) due to financial problems.

Dr. Kwaakontan called on the government to rehabilitate the poor road network in the area and further promised to complete the library project that had been embarked upon by the end of this year.

The Kyidomhene of Denkyira Traditional Area, Nana Appiako II, urged the rich people in area to support the needy to become responsible people in future.

“It is not only your family members that you have to help when you see them in difficulties, but try to help anybody you may come across to enable us build a better community,” he challenged.
