NPP urges youth to register

Accra, May 2, GNA - The New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Tuesday urged the youth to register as voters when the voters' roll is reopened on Friday.

The exercise, it said in a statement signed by Mr Peter Mac Manu, National Chairman, provided a fair chance for all citizens especially the youth and those who had not registered to do so. "The NPP believes that the forthcoming registration exercise is in order and therefore encourages all peace-loving and law abiding citizens to avail themselves of the opportunity to get enfranchised," it said. ".We hereby appeal to all to get involved in this national voters' registration exercise and help to mobilise the youth, 18 years and above to register. We do appeal especially to all parents and guardians in towns, villages and cities to encourage their children who will be 18 years by May 5 to register at the nearest registration centre." The statement said the NPP appreciated the enormous contributions of the youth towards building their tremendous potential yet to be tapped for accelerating the growth of the country. It said it was only when the youth were enfranchised, embraced, internalised and practised the principles of democracy that Ghana could rest easy, trusting that a sustainable legacy had been bequeathed to them.

The NPP appealed to parents and guardians to warn their children and wards to desist from doing anything that violated the law. They should not attempt to register if they were underage and also to avoid multiple registrations.
