NPP is the biggest in Africa - Mac Manu

GHANAIANS ARE ALERT NOW, SAYS MAC MANU

THE NATIONAL Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Peter Mac-Menu has said that, as a party in power, the NPP could address the concerns of it’s members without resort to strategies adopted by other governments that ruled the country. He explained that, Ghanaians were discerning enough to read between the lines and would vote against the party if it does things wrongly.

Mr. Mac-Manu, who was speaking at this year’s annual Eastern Regional Delegates Conference of the NPP at Akwatia on Saturday called on the members of the party to defend the good things that the Government had done.

He said the NPP was the biggest and well organized political party in Africa and had the capacity to solve all the emerging problems of the party to put to shame the detractors of the party.

The General Secretary of the Party, Nana Ohene Ntow said, the party had met with government officials to ensure that members of the party also benefit from the micro-credit scheme, which was recently launched by government to improve upon their businesses so that, in future when such people were called upon by the party, they would willingly respond.

He said the party had also strategize to ensure that the youth of the party also benefit from the National Youth Employment Programme.

Nana Ohene Ntow explained that, when people bring complains to the National Executive of the party and the issues were being delayed, it does not mean that the Executive had abandoned the issue but rather, it would be studying the issue to take the right decision so that the party could march forward in unity to win the 2008 elections.

In his report, the Regional Secretary of the party, Mr. Alex Agobo complained about indiscipline, which was creeping into the activities of some Constituency branches of the party where some members embark on some negative activities without reference to the constitution of the party.

He said the problems of some of the Constituencies in the Region had existed for a long time and appealed to the National Executive to help the Region to resolve such problems early before the party embarks on primaries for the election of the party’s Presidential and Parliamentary candidates.

Mr. Agobo called for the introduction of clear- cut sanctions against any member of the party who creates problems to stem the tide of indiscipline in the party.

The Member of Parliament for Koforidua North, Mr. Hackman Owusu-Agyeman said NPP would stay in power for the next 30 years.

He said the party had done enough and so for him the possibility of NPP loosing the 2008 elections was out of the question, “there are no ifs and but, NPP government would hand over power to an NPP government”.

Mr. Owusu-Agyeman said the party appreciates that all was not well and had put in place measures to correct its past.

He said currently, the government was spending 435 million dollars on water projects throughout the country and work had started on a 4,000 flat housing project in the Greater Accra Region.

Mr. Owusu-Agyeman said by the end of this year, work for the construction of another 4,000 flats would start in the Eastern Region and a similar project would also start in the Northern Region.

In a welcoming address, the Eastern Regional Chairman of the party, Mr. Yaw Gyekye Amoabeng pledged the commitment of his Executive to turn the various challenges in the Region into opportunities for the people.

He pledged, as the Regional Chairman of the party, to fight for the cause of the foot soldiers of the party in the Region and to work closely with government to ensure that government policies were well explained to the people.

Mr. Gyekye-Amoabeng promised that come 2008, the party would increase its number of Parliamentary seats in the Region and the percentage of popular votes.
