NPP begins vetting of aspirants in Western Region

Takoradi, April 12, GNA - Three persons have filed their nominations to contest the Evalue-Gwira Parliamentary seat on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The aspirants are Ms Katherine Afeiku, Ms Dorcas Elisabeth Amoah and Mr Eric Ogbame Selby. The seat is presently occupied by Mr Kojo Armah of the Convention People's Party.

Mr Lord Commey, National Organiser of the NPP, told a press conference at Takoradi on Wednesday that the Essikadu, Mpohor Wassa East, Bibiani and Tarkwa- Nsuaem constituencies were declared unopposed after the close of nominations. He said vetting for Effia-kwesiminstim constituency would not be done until the Party's national executive committee resolved some problems that had emerged there.

Mr. Commey said a mediation committee was already meeting various groups and factions to ensure a fair and amicable solution of the crisis. He said out of 33 applicants, who filed their nominations, 29 would be vetted. He stressed that the interest of the Party was paramount to personal ambitions and that rules would be enforced to the letter. "Members who cannot sub-merge their personal ambition to take up the interests of the NPP cannot qualify to be aspirants," he added. Mr Commey said the vetting would be free, fair but firm. Nana Ohene Ntow, General Secretary of the NPP, said until an acclamation is done, none of the aspirants can declare themselves as candidates. He appealed to the media to avoid sensationalising internal difficulties within the Party.
