NPP To Embark On Room To Room Campaign

Peter Mac Manu, National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged Party's activists to embark on a room-to-room campaign as a more effective electioneering strategy to woo more members for the party to chalk a resounding victory in the 2008 elections. He said there was no doubt that the NPP would be victorious again in 2008 because of its monumental achievements as evidenced in all parts of the country but was determined to deal "a crushing blow" to the main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which had adopted the house-to-house strategy.

"We are determined to continue to work towards the achievement of our goal to make life bearable for all Ghanaians and every member of the party must redouble efforts in this new strategy towards total victory in the 2008 elections," Mr Mac Manu said. The NPP National Chairman was addressing delegates at the Party's Parliamentary primaries in Jaman North Constituency at Sampa. Mr Siaka Stevens 45, Presiding Member of Jaman North District Assembly, polled 47 out of the 88 votes cast by the delegates to win the primaries. He was followed by Mrs Elizabeth Obah, Jaman North District Chief Executive, who polled 16 votes in the elections conducted by officials of Jaman North District Electoral Commission.

Mr Johnson Ofori Asubonteng, erstwhile Jaman District Chief Executive polled 15 votes, while Dr Oti Adinkrah, a Lecturer at Ghana Law School had six votes and Mr James Kwame Adams, a former students leader had three votes. One vote was declared invalid.Mr Mac Manu noted the steady growth of the NPP in Jaman North Constituency since 1996 although it was a bastion of the NDC and urged the people not to make the mistake of voting for it again "because the NDC has not changed a bit".He said the violent nature of the NDC was recently witnessed in Parliament when an MP slapped a colleague much to the chagrin of the august house and the entire Ghanaian society.

The NPP Chairman asked the NDC MP for the area "to start packing from Parliament" as he was going to be replaced by the NPP candidate in 2008 and asked the losers and other members of the party to quickly forget about the results of the primaries and embark on the room-to-room campaign to enable Mr Stevens capture the seat. In a post election speech, Mr Stevens pledged to work to ensure he emerged victorious in the 2008 elections and expressed the hope that the co-contestants would lend their unflinching support to enable the NPP win the seat from the NDC.

All the four losers pledged their support for Mr Stevens to enable the NPP wrestle the seat from the NDC, which has won the seat since 2002.
