NPP Polling Station Chairmen Accused of Forgery

Four New Patriotic Party (NPP) polling station chairmen in the Kade constituency in the Eastern Region have been accused of forging signatures of their colleagues to help a parliamentary aspirant, Mr. William Ampem Darko go through the vetting process, contrary to party regulations.

This came to light at an emergency meeting chaired by the constituency vice chairman of the party, Mr. Ofosu Okyere to ascertain the truth of a newspaper report alleging that all the polling station chairmen had passed a resolution to clear Mr. Ampem Darko of accusations that he was sponsoring the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the constituency.

"We wrote the document because we had the information that Mr. Ampem Darko was going to be disqualified for having a bad track record" Nana Addo Dankwa, spokesman for the four chairmen said.

However, the chairmen, with the exception of Mr Ekow Prah of Adonnkrono polling station, who declared that he read and understood the document before signing, said they had signed on a plain sheet.

This was after Addo Dankwa and colleagues had allegedly told them that they wanted to know the number of polling station chairmen without showing them any document.

The chairmen said they cried foul because they had no knowledge of any resolution that they were alleged to have signed pointing out that it was criminal on the part of the group to have forged their signatures without their knowledge.

They therefore appealed to the national executive of the party to take an immediate action against Addo Dankwa and his cohorts for their conduct, since it was a serious offence that disgraced the NPP as a whole.

"If these few members of the party, including an aspiring parliamentary candidate, could deceive the national chairman and general secretary among others, I don't see the reason why they should go unpunished," a polling station chairman said.
