NDC to win 20 of 24 B/A seats - Reg. Sec.

Kintampo (B/A), Sept 15, GNA - The National Democratic Congress (NDC) will win 20 out of the 24 parliamentary seats in Brong Ahafo in the 2008 general election.

Mr. Venkumini Harrison, Brong Ahafo Deputy Regional Secretary of the party in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Kintampo, stated this.

"The party won 10 seats in the 2004 elections namely Techiman North and South, Asunafo North and South, Asutifi, Jaman North, Sene, Pru, Atebubu-Amantin and Kintampo North and South and will win 10 more this time around," he said.

He said both the national and regional executives of the party were putting in place structures to ensure the realisation of the goal. "We shall not rest on our oars and will not allow any other party to capture any seat that we possess", he said.

Mr Harrison urged members of the party to remain committed and not to be lured with gifts and money to join any other party. He advised party activists to maintain their loyalty for the NDC and to work hard to win more members to ensure victory in the 2008 elections.

The Deputy regional Secretary said the Regional Secretariat was waiting for directives from the National Headquarters on the choice of parliamentary candidates in constituencies with NDC MPs. "We shall not rush to pick our candidates as we are still studying the terrain for marketable candidates who would emerge victorious," the Deputy Regional Secretary said.

Mr. Harrison said the NDC could maintain MPs who were still popular with the electorate and noted that, "Their chances of winning their seats is greater than new candidates". Meanwhile Mr. Stephen Kunsu, the NDC MP for Kintampo North has declared his intention to contest for the seat again.
