NDC regional chairmen engages national executives in Accra

Accra, Oct. 25, GNA - Regional Chairmen of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), has set October 26, to engage the National Executives to jointly strategies to deal with evolving challenges confronting the party.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Monday, Mr Kobina Ade-Coker Greater Accra regional Chairman said the engagement was a strategic follow-up to a National Stock-Taking Conference on party-government relations, held in July this year. Mr Ade-Coker, who is the Chairman of the NDC Regional Chairmen's Caucus, said issues to be discussed include measures to strengthen the party's structures, and critical analysis of developments within the party, over the period.

He said the party has identified and noted some dangerous developments across board, which may derail the quest to retain power in Elections 2012. The regional chairmen therefore seek to use the periodic leadership dialogue series to marshal plans to deal with the challenges. Mr Ade-Coker said other issues to be discussed includes, general political environment, evaluation of the state of the party at the regional levels, and appraisal of its communication strategies. He said the NDC leadership would remind itself and its teaming supporters of the party's historical background.

"The NDC is made up of groups and individuals from diverse backgrounds, who share a common determination to build a stable, just and democratic society and who believe that, the principles of development, through the united participation of all Ghanaians, remains the foundation of our democratic programme," he said. He reiterated that NDC as a social democratic party believes in the equality and egalitarian treatment of all persons, with respect to their political, economic, social, cultural and religious relations, in a multi-party environment.

Mr Ade-Coker said the party need to maintain its main political focus; "progressive in the protection of the under-privileged and the upliftment of the socially disadvantaged at all times. "These notions will not be sacrificed on the altar of political convenience or undermined by political opportunism". He said in spite of the challenges, the party is committed to its social democracy because it has its origins in grassroots participation and the involvement of ordinary citizens in decision-making at the local and national levels. 26 Oct. 10
