MP, DCE donates to incapacitated NPP member

Saltpond, May 16, GNA - Ghanaians have been urged to support political parties out of their conviction that they can improve the general condition of the country and not for their personal gain. Mr. Emmanuel Taylor, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Mfantseman District, who is now incapacitated, made the call when Mr. Stephen Asamoah Boateng, MP for Mfantseman West and Mr. Robert Quainoo-Arthur, District Chief Executive (DCE) presented some food items and medicine to him at his Saltpond residence.

Mr Asamoah Boateng, who has been nominated as the Minister Designate for Local Government, Rural Development and Environment, stated that Mr Taylor played a leading role in building the NPP in Mfantseman District.

Mr Taylor noted that even though his condition had thrown him out of job, he would not rely on the Party for a living and expressed gratitude to the Minister and the DCE for the gesture. He urged the MP and DCE to strive to create jobs for the youth. Mr. Asamoah Boateng said the 30 years that the Danquah-Busia tradition was in opposition had made members of the Party to realise the need to promote the welfare of the people.

Mr. Asamoah Boateng admitted that job creation had been his greatest problem since he was elected MP and stated "I have not made any significant headway in this direction even though I have made several efforts".

Mr. Quainoo-Arthur assured people who sacrificed to build the party that their efforts would not be in vain and at the appropriate time they would see the benefits of their efforts.

At Mankessim, the Minister Designate donated a computer and accessories, a 21-inch colour television, a stabiliser and a multimedia speaker to the staff of the Ghana National Fire Service Station. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Asamoah Boateng said the gesture was to ensure the proper storage of information and data and "the comfort of Firemen on stand-by especially at night".

He assured workers that government was doing everything possible to provide them with the logistics to enable them to perform efficiently. Mr. Quainoo-Arthur said the assembly had budgeted 300 million cedis from its share of the common fund for public education and to manage disasters.

Mr. Samuel Adabo, District Fire Officer, thanked the MP and the DCE for the gesture and gave the assurance that the items would be put to good use and would be properly maintained.
