Kade constituency NPP expresses confidence in MP

Asuom (ER), Aug. 23, GNA - Mr Isaac Sarpong, Chairman of the Kade Constituency Branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed satisfaction with the work of the Member of Parliament (MP) in the area describing him as an agent of development. He said apart from being a law maker, Mr Ofosu Asamoah, the MP, had contributed greatly to development of the constituency. The party Chairman was speaking at a press conference at Asuom organised to constituency executives to disassociate themselves from a demonstration and a statement by a "few disgruntled members of the party" at Asuom on August 15.

The group calling itself concern youth in the Kade constituency accused the MP of non-performance and neglect of parts of the constituency especially, Asuom. Mr Sarpong said that the group was unknown to the party and described those holding themselves out as executives and purporting to act on behalf of the youth of the area as "faceless people" and said Mr Asamoah was ready to engage them in a debate in respect of the concerns raised.

The chairman said the MP had played a key role in the positive change in the constituency in areas such as education and health. On education, Mr Sarpong said, the MP facilitated the provision of over 4,000 dual desks to basic schools to ensure that children did not have to carry tables from homes to school in the constituency. He said Mr Asamoah was instrumental in the provision of new school structures in almost every town in the constituency to enable children in primary, Junior and Senior High Schools to study under better conditions. Mr Sarpong said though not all schools were renovated or received new structures, the MP helped to provide books, computers, libraries as well as financial support and scholarships to the youth. He said Mr Asamoah also assisted people to get employment at areas such as the Education Service, Health Service as well as the Security Services. Mr Sarpong said the MP also sponsored some medical doctors, nurses and other health assistant trainees. He said the MP even at times provided money to contractors to clear refuse at Asuom, Kade, Pramkese and other places in the constituency. The Chairman said recently, the MP provided GH¢20,000 for the purchase of a standby generator for the Kade Hospital.

Mr Asamoah, who was at the press conference, said his achievements speak for themselves and announced that the Asuom town library, which he constructed together with another one at Kade would be commissioned next month. Asked whether he would contest the 2012 parliamentary elections, the MP said he had 30 months to make up his mind.
