The newly-elected Member of Parliament (MP) for Abetifi, Bryan Acheampong, has pledged to garner over 80 per cent votes for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo during this year’s presidential and parliamentary elections.

Mr Acheampoong won the Abetifi by-election on Saturday July 16 in the Eastern Region with over 14,000 votes of the total 15,577 valid votes cast, to retain the seat for the NPP.

The by-election followed the death of Mr Peter Wiafe Pepera in May this year. Mr Acheampong, who spoke to journalists after he was declared winner of the by-elections, expressed confidence that the NPP will win the constituency with 80 per cent of the total votes cast.

“I can assure you that whatever can be done within these four months, the one project per electoral area, that one, we shall pursue that aggressively. The 80 per cent margin that we won in this election, by our estimate, we are expecting those margins in the general elections. We shouldn’t get anything less than 80 per cent in the November or December elections. We are not expecting anything less than 80 per cent of the total votes cast…no question about that”, he stated.

“We as NPP, this was our mock exams. Our entire party processes for the 2016 elections were tested here. The electronic collation, how we managed our paces, feeding, how our polling station agents coordinated …everything that was tested in this process was excellent, so, we expect to deliver the same process in the general election and, if so happens, then we will sail through 2016”, he added.
