"Goat Man" Joins NDC

Daily Guide -- The 78-year old retired driver, Mr. Peter Kweku Amissah, who requested for goats from President John Agyekum Kufuor at last year’s People’s Assembly in Cape Coast, has now turned against him.

Mr. Amissah, who was always spotted in front of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) party office and referred to as “Goat Man” in the town, is vigorously campaigning for the presidential candidate of NDC, Prof Evans John Atta Mills.

The sudden turn around or defection as some may call it, has caused much controversy among the rank and file of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) because Amissah had been rooting for NPP in previous years.

Although some NPP supporters were making mockery of Amissah’s defection, he was not bothered and continued his campaign from one suburb to the other, drawing laughter and sympathy as well from people in the municipality.

In an interview with Daily Guide in Cape Coast on Tuesday at his residence, Mr. Amissah said he was retired and needed to join a party that could help him get something to eat before he died, hence his decision to join the NDC, which he claimed, was capable of providing food for all Ghanaians, including himself.

He mentioned the former National Fire Officer, Mr. Samuel Vallis Akyianu, who he said had done a lot for the region and Ghana, as one of the people who supported him daily with some money.

“NPP is not ready to look after me, that is why they gave me sick goats, all of whom have died,” he told the paper.

Mr. Amissah said he felt it was better people valued what was from their communities than revere things from outside,” so it was high time he and his colleagues in the region voted for Prof Mills.

He argued that almost all the tribes in Ghana had gotten the mandate to rule the country and he did not see any improvement in the country economy so it was high time they gave the Fantes the mandate to rule the country and see what kind of economic gain this would bring the country.

He quoted the Mfantsipim Secondary School motto that says ‘Think Ahead” literally meaning “Dwen Hwe Kan” and urged those in the Central Region to think ahead and vote massively for Prof Mills so that Ghana could become one of the most powerful nations in the world.

Amissah, who shows much interest in animal rearing, said he had requested for some dogs from the NDC and very soon would have them since the NDC could never disappoint him.

He therefore appealed to Ghanaians to vote for Prof Mills since he was the one who could lead the country to the land of honey and milk.
