Ghana Hotels Association congratulates President Mills

Techiman (B/A) Jan. 19, GNA - The Brong-Ahafo Regional Branch of the Ghana Hotels Association has congratulated President John Evans Atta Mills on his election to the highest office of the state. Mr Philip Kofi Ntiamoah, Regional Chairman, made the commendation on behalf of the association in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Techiman at the weekend.

He said President Mills who was once the Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service would ensure that taxes would be streamlined to the benefit of the tax payer.

The regional chairman commended the President for "the hard-won fight in the 2008 election" and extended the association's gratitude to former Presidents Jerry John Rawlings and John Agyekum Kufuor for the maturity they exhibited to ensure a peaceful handing over. He called on other African countries to emulate Ghana's democracy to avoid chaos on the continent.

In another development, Mr Peter Owusu-Baffoe, Nkoranza South Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has commended the party's supporters for their unflinching support towards the resounding victory in the 2008 general election. He told the GNA at Nkoranza that in spite of the little resources the party had "the supporters denied themselves of gifts and money from opposition parties and rallied behind the NDC".

Mr Owusu-Baffoe appealed to members of the party to rally behind the government to enable it to work effectively in the execution of projects to help alleviate the plight of Ghanaians. He urged the youth of the party to live in unity with their counterparts in opposition and desist from confrontations that could jeopardize the peace of the country.

"The election is over, no person should revisit any bitterness of the event to engage in any quarrels since we belong to one state as one people," Mr Owusu-Baffoe stressed.
