Election Security Taskforce to strengthen post election security

Accra, Dec. 29, GNA - The National Election Security Taskforce (NESTF) on Monday commended the public for maintaining the peace and order during the Presidential Election Runoff, reminding Ghanaians that it would continue to strengthen security in the aftermath of the elections to ensure the safety of lives and property and to promote general security.

In a statement in Accra signed by the Director for Public Affairs of the Police Service, DSP Kwesi Ofori the NESTF advised the public against lawlessness and acts of vandalism, calling for calm and to support the Police to maintain peace, law and order in the country.

The Taskforce reminded any group of persons wishing to organize any public event to adhere strictly to the Public Order Act (ACT 491) and to inform the Police five days before such events.

It said the Electoral Commission's Headquarters still remained a restricted area and that access to that road would only be granted to emergency vehicles, those of the Commission, security services and stakeholders. The statement said the Taskforce and operational units would be deployed to assist to maintain public order and called on motorists to cooperate with the Police.
