Editorial: So all are against NDC

The ruling National Democratic Congress is currently on a warpath with each and every organisation that disagrees with any of its policies, the latest being the attack on all civil society organisations in the country.

It all began when the NDC and its Attorney General Betty Mould Iddrisu began losing court cases left, right and centre. The reason for their numerous loses was that the judiciary was in bed with the NPP because of the “Kufuor judges” who were on the bar.

The NDC, led by its Chairman, Dr Kwabena Adjei, threatened to clean the judiciary as he stated that there were several ways of killing a cat. Not surprisingly, the attacks on the Chief Justice and the Judiciary have continued unabated.

Earlier this week, in a vague attempt to bully his way through the “Mills mansion saga” Director of Communications at the Presidency, Koku Anyidoho, even went to the extent of threatening to “personally deal with” Peace FM and the host of its morning show, Kwame Sefa Kayi, to court.

Such has been the NDC’s attempt to silence everyone that it had to comb through the Criminal Code and to seize upon the offence of offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace and the sister offence of publishing false news likely to cause fear and alarm to the public.

The Institute of Economic Affairs is now said to have joined the CDD group. CDD as defined by the NDC is the Credibility Deficit Department. This is after a supposed publication of an article by the IEA which sought to imply that the NPP had abused incumbency during the 2008 elections.

The IEA denied it had published such a report and its denial of the existence of this article led to a barrage of attacks by government officials particularly Kojo Boafo, the Executive Director of the Ghana Free Zones Board.

IMANI is the latest think tank to come under the attack of the NDC and has now been labelled as an appendage of the opposition New Patriotic Party by Felix Ofosu Kwakye. Not surprisingly, this elicited a sharp response from the Executive Director of IMANI who described Felix as “an advanced bootlicker and a mere useful idiot”.

One would therefore want to find out why the NDC is taking delight in attacking everyone and labelling everyone who criticises them as being with the NPP.

It seems the NDC is realising that it is losing the battle towards 2012 and as such is seemingly disillusioned about each and everyone. Instead of focussing attention on delivering on their “Better Ghana Agenda” which has now become the Bitter Ghana Agenda all they are doing is attack everyone.

The country is facing gas shortages everywhere. The standard of living among Ghanaians is getting worse day in, day out. The prices of goods and services keep rising despite the single digit inflation attained by government. Our communities are being drowned; cholera is spearing across all regions in the country.

Social interventions such as the National Health Insurance Scheme, School Feeding Programme, Capitation Grant and LEAP, programmes introduced by the NPP government under President Kufuor are collapsing.

It seems all that the NDC and its leader President Mills are more concerned about is attacking everyone who criticises them. To them, everyone must see the good in all they do and when they do badly, no one in this country must talk about it.
