DCE?s must resign before contesting MP seats

Chief Executives of Metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives wishing to contest parliamentary seats will now have to resign from office before declaring their intentions.

The Local government minister has summoned a meeting with the Chief executives to break the news to them.

Charles Bintim was reacting to concerns raised in parliament by MPs on the conflicting role of chief executives of assemblies and Members of Parliament.

The MPs said most DCEs undermine their efforts especially when the DCEs were interested in contesting the seats of the MPs.

Responding to the MPs? concerns, local government minister Charles Bintim said the ministry has instituted stringent measures to resolve the conflicts.

He said one of those measures is barring the chief executives from contesting parliamentary seats whiles in office.
