Bawumia Was Part Of A Gang That Held Ghana’s Economy To Hostage

A member of the National
Reform
Party, Dr. David Percy says the
New Patriotic Party (NPP) 2012
running mate, Dr. Mahamudu
Bawumia and his party are to
blame for the country’s ailing
economy.

A lecture delivered in May at the
‘Distinguished Speaker Series’
organized by the Central
University College in Accra, Dr
Bawumia said the Ghanaian
economy is in crisis making
reference to high inflation,
double
digit budget deficit, depreciation
of the cedi, and the general lack
of
growth in the economy.

Speaking at the same platform
June 3, a former Finance
Minister,
Prof. Kwesi Botchwey, agreed
with
some of Dr. Bawumia’s
assessment of the economy
which
received media attention and
scrutiny.

”Mahamudu is a young man
whose professional credentials I
particularly respect; I offer no
rebuttals (to his lecture). On the
contrary, I do agree with much
of
what he said.”
But Dr. David Percy believes the
wounds left behind by the
landmark 2012 election petition
case cannot be ruled out of the
current state of the country’s
economy.
According to him, the election
petition case brought the
country’s economic
development
to a standstill as investors were
unwilling to invest money into
the
economy.
“Dr. Bawumia was part of a
gang
that held Ghana’s economy to
hostage. If you do that, all the
things that he predicted will
come
true. And that’s what the NPP
and
its surrogates have spent time
doing…promoting uncertainty
about the economy, promoting
capital flight and promoting the
postponement of investment
decisions.”
“…If your entire political stock
in
trade is about promoting
uncertainty and running the
country down, it doesn’t take
really much…He (Dr. Bawumia)
and his team (NPP) were
working
day and night to drive the
economy aground. So it didn’t
take a prophet to say where we
were going,” he bewailed.
Dr. David Percy is however,
urging
government and other
stakeholders to as a matter of
urgency put in place measures
that will put the country’s
economy in the hands of
Ghanaians for accelerated
development.
He spoke on Radio Gold’s
current
affairs programme, Alhaji and
Alhaji with Alhassan Suhuyini ,
Saturday.
