Asante-Akim South DCE to contest seat unopposed

Juaso (Ash), Sept. 26, GNA - Mr De-graft Fokuo, Asante-Akim South District Chief Executive (DCE) is set to become the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the area as he is the only perso= n to have filed his nomination at the close of the deadline. This would be his third bid at the constituency parliamentary seat, having lost twice in year 2004 and 2008, to the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The DCE is seen by many as the most formidable candidate, who could giv= e the opposition NPP a good run for their money in the next year's general election.

According to NDC loyalists, Mr Fokuo's excellent performance and good inter-personal relationship are likely to give electoral advantage to the party. Mr Abass Mubarak Abass, Party Constituency Organiser, told the Ghana News Agency that the DCE is the best candidate the party could present in its quest to win the seat.

"He has over the years distinguished himself as a credible politician= in the constituency, having served as assembly member since 1988, when the district assembly concept was introduced.

"This is our best chance to wrest the seat from the NPP," he said. He called on members of the NDC to unite and focus on the job of ensuring the party's re-election in 2012.
