150 cadres in Ejisu-Juaben threaten to quit the NDC

Ejisu (Ash), May 22, GNA - The 150-member Ejisu-Juaben United Cadres Front of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) is on a collision course with the party's constituency executive over the latter's demand for the removal of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).

The cadres had threatened to quit the party if the national leadership did not rein in the constituency executive, who they described as not only a "disgrace but a bunch of stomach politicians."

This comes barely 48 hours after the Constituency Chairman, Mr. Kofi Acheampong, had led a group of NDC supporters on a two-hour street demonstration, calling for the dismissal of the MCE, Mr Mohammed Boakye-Agyemang, for non-cooperation, neglect and acts harmful to the party's interest.

The protestors also accused him of juicy contract awards to perceived members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP). The cadres, however, in a swift rebuttal said the accusations were unfounded and unsupported by facts.

A press statement issued by the Front and signed by Mr. John Blay Junior at Ejisu, said as true founders of the NDC, they had closely followed the actions and decisions of the MCE and they are clear in their minds that he is loyal, dedicated and committed to the party's cause. They said they were aware that Mr. Boakye-Agyemang had from his own pocket given an amount of GH¢5,000.00 to the constituency executive in support of the activities of the party. Additionally, they know of NDC members, who are beneficiaries of big and juicy contracts.

The cadres said it therefore smacked of dishonesty for the executive to fabricate lies against the MCE. Meanwhile, Mr. Boakye-Agyemang has called for calm and advised that the party's internal conflict resolution mechanism should be used to resolve any differences. He said it was important the unity and cohesion of the party was maintained.
