Upgrade Kpensenkpe health post to Polyclinic – Chiefs

Some Chiefs and people of the Wulugu Traditional area in the West Mamprusi District of the Northern Region have appealed to the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to upgrade the health post at Kpensenkpe to a polyclinic status.

The Chiefs and people made the appeal on behalf of the Paramount Chief of the Wulugu Traditional Area, Naba Professor John S Nabila, during the end of this year’s review meeting of the SADA Millennium Villages Project (SADA MVP) held in Bolgatanga, Upper East Region.

The Stakeholders meeting brought together traditional leaders, Assembly members, Unit Committee members and Women leaders among others from Communities in the SADA-MVP operational areas.

It was aimed at taking stock of project implementation, achievements, and challenges in 2015 and to chart a way forward for the sustainability of the project after its end in December, 2016.

According to the chiefs and people, the SADA-MVP project had provided the Kpensenkpe Health Center with all the necessary facilities that could enable it operate as a Polyclinic.

They said the medical equipment to enable the functioning of a Medical Theatre has been provided together with the opening of a laboratory capable of carrying out many of the basic tests.

The Stakeholders added that a Doctor’s Bungalow and a number of nurses quarters had been rehabilitated and an ambulance provided for the facility by SADA-MVP, and impressed upon the MOH and the GHS to ensure that the facility was upgraded to a polyclinic status to serve the health needs of the thirty communities located where the Kpesenkpe Health Center is sited.

The Assembly Member for Kpasenkpe, Ibrahim Sebiyam, remarked that the numerous interventions brought about by the SADA-MVP in the area of health, agriculture, education, infrastructure have helped improve upon the lives of many of our community members.

The Team Leader of the SADA-MVP, Mr David Sumbo, urged the MOH, GHS and the District Assembly to take over the facility and upgrade it to ensure its sustainability.

He suggested that for the meantime a Medical Doctor could be posted to the area on routine basis and disclosed that currently the project was sponsoring some student midwives who have been bonded by the project and GHS to serve SADA-MVP operational areas after completion.

The SADA-MVP Project which started in 2012 in the Mamprugu Moaduri and West Mamprusi Districts in the Northern Region and the Builsa South district of the Upper East Region through the collaboration of its partners had implemented a lot of programmes including education, health, agriculture and infrastructure across 35 communities in the afore-mentioned Districts.
