Ghana’s Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has joined hundreds of Ghanaians at the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park to donate blood.

The second gentleman of the land is partnering Starr FM and the National Blood Bank to embark on this exercise. The stock of the national blood bank has reached a critical level thereby making it extremely difficult for the survivors of last week’s twin disaster to be treated.

Speaking to Starr News’ Ibrahim Alhassan, the vice president appealed to Ghanaians to turn up in their numbers to help save the lives of the victims battling for their lives at the various hospitals.

“A week ago last Wednesday, residents of Accra and other communities in our country felt the devastating and destructive force of nature. Overflowing waters from torrential rain confronted many people pursuing routine activities.

“We suffered many casualties some of whom are recovering from their injuries in hospitals. But the recovery process has been slow as our hospitals have run out of blood. I’m here to ask for compassion and support to assist our friends and neighbours recover from their injuries and start the long process of rebuilding their lives,” Amissah-Arthur said.

“We want each one of us to give a little of our lives so that the battered and the bruised can be restored to good health. Please join me at the Efua Sutherland Children’s park today to donate blood to restore lives to the victims of the disaster,” he added.

The Vice President is at the Children’s Park with a host of other government officials.

Upon his arrival, he told host of the Morning Zoo Nii Ayi Tagoe: “We all have blood and that is the only thing we can give to save lives.”
