NGO gives to three hospitals

Mr Ebsen W. Amarteifio, Chief Executive Officer of the Ago Amarteifio Foundation (AAF) in London, has donated numerous medical items valued at 10,000 pounds sterling to three hospitals in the Greater Accra Region.

This is to boost the healthcare delivery of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Ridge and Dangme Hospitals.

The Korle-Bu Hospital received equipment worth 5,000 pounds, Ridge 3,000 pounds and the Dangme Community Hospital in the Ningo Prampram District - 2,000 pounds.

Mr Amarteifio, a United Kingdom-based Ghanaian journalist in an interview with the Ghana News Agency said the donation was in fulfillment of the Foundation’s mission of reaching out to needy hospitals in Ghana.

He said since the foundation was established 17 years ago, he had supported health institutions like the Korle-Bu and Komfo Anokye Hospitals and gave the assurance of helping hospitals in the country.

Mr Amarteifio, also a Psychiatric Specialist, said he would engage the authorities of the hospitals in regular interactions to know which areas they would need his assistance in healthcare delivery.

He stated that he would encourage Ghanaians residing in the UK to also contribute their quota in assisting hospitals in Ghana to lessen the challenges confronting them.

He urged medical professionals of the hospitals to make the best use of the equipment to promote quality healthcare delivery.

Dr Obeng Apori, Medical Director of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, formerly Ridge Hospital, expressed gratitude to Mr Amarteifio for the donation.

Dr Apori said the hospital was in serious need, especially wheel-chairs and appealed to other NGOs to go to their aid.

He assured the Foundation that the items would be put to good use to benefit of patients.

Mrs Mercy Otoo, Deputy Director of Nursing Services of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, who received the equipment, thanked the benefactor for the gesture and assured of using them for their intended purposes.

At the presentation of the medical items at the Dangme Community Hospital at Ningo, Dr Paul Avotri expressed gratitude to the Foundation for assisting the hospital, which he said was in a deprived condition.
