Minister calls for support for the physically challenged

An urgent need to care for the physically challenged and empower them economically has been stressed by the Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister. Mr Eric Opoku said judicious utilisation of the Disability Fund established under the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) was critical in national development.

Mr Opoku made the call when addressing the Second Quarterly Meeting of Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs), in Sunyani, to review activities, evaluate performance and take measures to improve development in the Region. In addition, it created an opportunity for the MDCEs to update their knowledge on new legislations and methods of governance to effectively and efficiently live up to their responsibilities.

Mr Opoku urged them to ensure unity, dedicate themselves to their mandate and work hard to enhance the image of governance. He advised them to create platforms to educate the citizenry on government policies and programmes as well as projects being undertaken in the districts and municipalities.

Mr Opoku congratulated Alhaji Mohammed Kwaku Doku, Asunafo North Municipal Chief Executive, for his election as President of Nalag and advised him to discharge the work creditably to enhance the region’s image. Mr Noble Dormenu, Director of Operations for VRA and GRIDCO in the Brong-Ahafo Region, briefed the MDCEs on ongoing and proposed electrification projects in the area.

These are Network Protection System Improvement Project (NPSIP), Network Mapping and Data Capture and Ministry of Energy and Petroleum (MOEP) projects. Others are the conversion of the Techiman- Abofour and Kintampo shield wire network onto the system and the construction of a primary substation at Bui.
