Berekum scores 96.6 per cent immunization coverage

Berekum (B/A) Nov. 24, GNA - A supplementary immunization exercise organised in Berekum from November 3 to 6 this year, scoring 96.6 per cent coverage. The Berekum Municipal Health Directorate in collaboration with the local Assembly conducted the highly subscribed measles/vitamin immunization exercise.

Mr. Samuel Opoku, Municipal Director of Health Service, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Berekum on Tuesday, said the services rendered included vaccination against measles and Vitamin 'A' capsules administering to children aged between nine months and five years. Mr. Opoku disclosed that the exercise was conducted around fixed points located in the communities instead of the usual house-to-house strategy, saying at the close of the official period, 89.1 per cent coverage was chalked.

He explained that parents were initially reluctant to patronize the exercise but later the Assembly together with the Municipal Office of the National Immunization Day Planning Committee organised a mopping up, which resulted in the 96.6 per cent coverage.

The municipal director commended the Assembly and all other stakeholders for their maximum support and co-operation during the exercise and specifically mentioned local churches and local radio stations for publicising the exercise. 24 Nov.10
