Health insurance scheme asked to cover more people

Breman Asikuma (C/R), July 1, GNA - The Central Regional Manager of the National Health Insurance Authority, Mr. Emmanuel Baiden, has appealed to the Board of Directors and management of health insurance schemes to step up their registration drive in order to achieve the national target of registering 60 per cent of the population by the end of the year.

Mr. Baiden said this at the third annual meeting of the Breman Asikuma Mutual Health Insurance Scheme at Breman Asikuma. He said the policy objective of the scheme is within the next five years every resident of Ghana shall belong to a health insurance scheme. The District Chief Executive for the area, Mr. Emmanuel Adjei Domson, appealed to the Board of Directors and management of health insurance schemes to ensure good corporate governance of the schemes. He called for transparency, accountability and the rights of all clients of the scheme.

"To ensure effective corporate governance, the Directors should avoid direct interference in the activities of the management staff. We need to be committed to supervisory and advisory roles in managing the scheme".

Mr. Domson advised the management of the Breman Asikuma scheme to be prudent and committed to the job.
