Lions Club of Tema builds eye clinic for TGH

Tema, Nov. 27, GNA 96 The Lions Club of Tema in complementing the efforts of the Health Sector to provide quality health care to the people is constructing a modern eye clinic for Tema. The project, sited at the Tema General Hospital has reached at an advanced stage.

At an installation and fund raising dinner dance in aid of the clinic, over the week-end, the newly installed president of the Club, Mr. Kwadwo Kissiedu Kwapong said the Club intends to raise about 120,000 dollars to fully complete the Eye Care Centre.

He said the plight of people with eye problems and the less privileged had been of great concern to members, so in line with their motto, 93We serve,=94 they decided to embark on the project.

Mr Kwapong said with a current membership of 34 they have screened the eyes of about 300 people and provided another 150 people with eye glasses.

The Chief of Tema, Nii Adjei Kraku the second, commended the club for its intervention in programmes in the provision of quality health care to the community.

He noted that preventable blindness still plagues the people and advised that the people undertake periodic examination of their eyes to ensure that they were in good health to prevent blindness.
