Whip up enthusiasm in NSD - Collins Dauda to Media

Alhaji Collins Dauda, the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, has appealed to the media to whip up enthusiasm and enhance participation in the 10th edition of the National Sanitation Day (NSD).

The Brong-Ahafo Regional capital will host this edition of the 2015 NSD, slated for September 5, to be participated by President John Dramani Mahama, Ministers of State, and Members of Parliament (MPs).

Mr Dauda, who is the MP for Asutifi South, observed that the day could witness massive and impressive turnout depending largely on the extent of publicity the media, especially the radio stations, would give to the event.

He was addressing journalists and media practitioners at a press soiree organised by the Ministry in Sunyani on Thursday.

Alhaji Dauda appreciated the immense contributions and support of the media in organising the NSD in the nine other regions, which according to him were all successful, and expressed optimism that the Brong-Ahafo event would be extra-ordinary.

He said since cholera and other communicable diseases had no social class, Ghanaians must show interest and give attention to issues relating to hygiene.

Alhaji Dauda recounted that close to 200 people died through the cholera outbreak in 2014, explaining it was as a result of this that President Mahama instituted the NSD.

The NSD, which is observed in the first Saturday of every month, he said, had come to stay and urged Ghanaians to embrace the concept to help promote clean environment.

Mr Eric Opoku, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, expressed confidence in the media in the region saying its contribution towards accelerated national development is highly appreciable.

He said the regional capital and other parts of Brong-Ahafo could always be remembered in the history of Ghana due to environmental cleanliness and the hospitality of the people.

Mr Opoku, the MP for Asunafo South, advised Ghanaians to join hands with the Government to wage relentless and hectic crusade against filth.
