Vodafone staff donates to National Blood Service

Vodafone Foundation, the charity arm of Vodafone Ghana, has embarked on a blood donation exercise to support the National Blood Service.

The exercise aimed to replenish dwindling blood stock levels in the wake of the June 3 flood and fire disaster.

Staff of Vodafone at the company’s headquarters in the Airport city enclave of Accra participated in the donation.

Ms Sophia Blankson, Donor Recruitment Officer of the National Blood Service, expressed her gratitude to the company for breaking its tradition of donating blood once a year, and donating a second time to support disaster victims.

She said her outfit was always in need of blood, and therefore appealed to schools, churches and other organizations to support the National Blood Service with donations.

Mr Ebenezer Amankwah, Vodafone’s Corporate Communications Manager said: “We realized that the unavailability of blood meant that more lives could be lost. As a caring brand, Vodafone Ghana was touched by the plight of the flood and fire victims.

We believe we have a role to play in saving the lives of victims of the floods and the associated emergency cases.”

Dr Justina Ansah, Director of the National Blood Service was also grateful for the donation, and urged corporate bodies and other organizations to make regular donations.

“This is what we want everybody to do, because blood donation is a civic responsibility”, she said.
