Service personnel asked to get involved in HIV/AIDS education

Manso-Nkwanta (Ash), July 28, GNA - National Service personnel have been urged to get seriously involved in the education, aimed at preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS.

Mr Abubakari Alhassan, Amansie West District Co-ordinating Director, who made the call, asked National Service personnel to undertake house-to-house education to sensitise the people on the disease.

He was speaking at the launching of this year's Amansie West district's celebration of the National Service Week at Manso-Nkwanta at the weekend.

Mr Alhassan noted that, the youth formed the bulk of the country's labour force and advised them to avoid unprotected sex and other lifestyles likely to endanger their lives. Mr Anthony Adjei, the district's monitoring and evaluation focal Person on HIV/AIDS, appealed to the service personnel to intensify their fight against the pandemic and reminded the public that there was no known cure for the disease.

Mr Yussif Muntari, the district chairman of the association, decried the meagre allowances being given to service personnel in the face of the present economic conditions.

He also advised the National Service Secretariat to ensure that, service personnel received their allowances on time and provided with accommodation.
