Pharmacist calls for qualified personnel to handle drug stores

Adawso, (E/R), Sept 5, GNA - Mr Obeng Appiatu, a pharmacist at Adawso, in the Eastern Region, has appealed to the Food and Drugs Board and the Ghana Medical Association to ensure that drugs stores employ qualified pharmacists.

"The pharmacies should be handled by qualified and experienced personnel who can explain the right application of prescribed drugs to the customer."

Mr Appiatu, who made the call at a general meeting with pharmacists, drug store owners, drug peddlers and some traditional herbal dealers, at Adawso, said many drug stores have been established to help cure the sick but the plight of the people had rather been worsened because of wrong dispensary and poor direction by some attendants at the pharmacies.

He said called on the authorities to weed out unlicensed and fake orthodox and traditional medicine dealers in the system. Mr Appiatu suggested the setting up of monitoring units in the regions and the districts to undertake periodic checks on the chemical and drug sellers who deal in fake imported medicines.
