Nkwanta District making progress in combating guinea worm

Nkwanta (V/R), Sept.6, GNA- Mr. Isaaka Adamu, Nkwanta District Disease Control Officer, has said the District was making great progress in combating guinea worm.

He told GNA that the District Disease Control Office recorded only nine cases from January to June this year as against a total of 37 cases during the same period last year.

Mr. Adamu said only three cases were from the District, and that the achievement was due to the continuous education, monitoring and surveillance by the Ghana Health Service, Red Cross, Peace Corps Volunteers and community-based Surveillance Volunteers. He said the District had planned to reduce guinea worm infection in the area to a minimum level. 6 Sept 07
