More school children registered for Fanteakwa Mutual Health Scheme

Begoro, Dec. 20, GNA - Six thousand and eighteen (6,018) school children representing 50 percent of students in educational institutions have been registered under the Fanteakwa District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme.

The District Manager of the Scheme, Mr Eugene Opoku-Afrifa, told the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday at Begoro that self medication had reduced drastically among the students as a result. He commended the Member of Parliament for Fanteakwa, Mr Kwadwo Agyei-Addo for paying the registration fee and premium for students and the aged in the District. Mr Opoku-Afrifa said the scheme would deal drastically with commission agents who refused to render accounts on premiums collected at the appropriate time, since delays would facilitate embezzlement of the monies by the agents.

He said an agent at Begoro-Bontirase, who failed to render accounts recently, embezzled an amount of 17 million cedis being premiums collected and he was placed in police custody for three days until he refunded the money. The Scheme Manager urged all commission agents to render accounts to the secretariat, three months after collection to avoid the temptation to use the money.
