Minister urges NHIS staff to work hard to sustain scheme

Abura-Dunkwa (C/R), Jan. 15, GNA - Nana Ato Arthur, Central Regional Minister, has urged Health Insurance workers to put up a credible performance to sustain the scheme.

He said the sustainability of the scheme was extremely important to the government and the nation because its collapse would adversely affect the healthcare of millions of Ghanaians living below the poverty level and eventually derail the current rate of national development. The appeal was contained in a message read on his behalf by Nana Ogyefo-Yena, an official of the Central Regional Administration, to management officials of various district health insurance schemes operating in the Region at the weekend.

Nana Arthur urged managements of all District Mutual Health Insurance Schemes in the Region to submit quarterly situation reports to the Regional Administrations to enable it to keep track of progress or otherwise of their various work.

The workers assured the Regional Minister of their determination to intensify their activities and called on the government to come out with what they described as "inspiring service conditions" to ginger them for higher productivity.

They also appealed to the government to speed up plans to provide various district schemes with vehicles to make them mobile. Participants availed themselves of the meeting, the first of its kind in the Region, to give finishing touches to a draft constitution for the Central Regional Mutual Health Insurance Schemes Staff Association. 15 Jan. 06
