LITRAF foundation and FOWCA organises blood donation

Life Transformers Foundation (LITRAF-Foundation) and Foundation for Women and Children Affairs (FOWCA) in collaboration with the Korle-Bu Blood Bank at the weekend organised a health screening and blood donation exercise to help stock the National Blood Bank.

The exercise dubbed: “Your Blood Counts – Donate to Save a Life” held at the forecourt of the Madina Estate Magistrate Court on Saturday, May 24, 2014 was highly patronised by the residents of the Madina Estate and surrounding communities.

Mr. Desmond Bress-Biney, president of LITRAF-Foundation said the exercise was part of their contribution to society to support the Blood Bank at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

He said the exercise was in response to an appeal from the national blood bank for donation to reverse the shortage of blood at the blood bank, which is resulting in the death of a number of children and women.

“The exercise was successful and we hope to organise same in about three different places before the end of this year to help save lives at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital”, he said.

On her part, Miss. Jemilatu Mamshie Bawa, president and founder of FOWCA noted that the exercise was important because it would save lives. She said the exercise afforded people the opportunity to check their blood pressure, haemoglobin level and hepatitis status.

She also thanked all donors and sponsors for collaborating with them to make the event successful.

The donation exercise, which started from 9:00am to 3:00pm, was sponsored by Koko King, Life Transformers Foundation (LITRAF-Foundation) and the Foundation for Women and Children Affairs (FOWCA).
