Ghana-Re donates 230 million cedis to health institutions

Accra, Sept. 20, GNA - Donation towards quality health care received a boost on Thursday when Ghana Reinsurance Company Limited donated 230 million cedis to five institutions to help in the training of their students and treatment of patients.

The five institutions are the College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana; School of Medical Sciences, KNUST; Ghana Heart Foundation; Department of Child health, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and Ghana National Trust Fund.

Mr William Abenyaga, Managing Director of Ghana Reinsurance Company, said the company, as part of its social responsibilities, annually set aside a percentage of its income to institutions to help solve their problems as far as finance was concerned. "We are all aware and have over the years recognised that our institutions of higher learning need to continuously replenish and rejuvenate the skills of their teaching staff." He said due to the assistance that the College of Health Sciences had received it had been able to produce over a dozen specialist medical officers who had boosted the number of qualified lectures. Mr. Agbenyegah said the Company hoped to liaise with the authorities of the Children's Ward of the Korle bu Teaching Hospital to find out their specific needs so that they could plan towards solving those problems instead of making periodic donations. He called on all to support the activities of the Department of Child Health of the hospital saying any nation that neglected the health of its children did so at its peril.

The representatives of the five institutions thanked Ghana Reinsurance Company for the donation and appealed to other organisations to come to their aid.
