Farmer presents items to Tema General Hospital

Tema, Oct. 03, GNA - Mr Mohammed Tetteh Akpa, an Afienya-based poultry and livestock farmer on Tuesday presented food items worth seven million cedis and one million cedis cash to the management of Tema General Hospital for the upkeep of the in-patients. The items included 100 crates of eggs, 400 loaves of bread and fruits.

Mr Akpa said the strategic location of the hospital required material and financial support from the public to complement Government's efforts to provide quality health care service to patients.

He noted that the hospital which was initially built to serve few communities now served a larger community including referral cases from surrounding villages and clinics in Tema thus putting pressure on the facilities and staff.

Mr Akpa, a past Greater Accra Regional Best Farmer with his farms at Lorlorvor, near Asutuare Junction appealed to Government to consider the fast rate of development at Tema and its environs, to establish a Nursing Training School for the people.

Mr Bediako Asamoah, Administrator of the hospital receiving the items called on philanthropists, individuals, institutions and organisations to emulate the farmer's gesture and support the hospital.

He said they could adopt some of the wards and undertake clean-up exercises to improve sanitation at the hospital.
