The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has seized over a hundred expired drugs that were on sale in the Central Region.

The drugs were seized from two chemical stores in the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem (KEEA) district when municipal health officers and the FDA were on their routine inspection.

Regional Director of the FDA, Kwame Nsiah-Poku, told Class News the owners of the chemical shops will be arraigned before court Tuesday March 29.

“We seized some expired products from two chemical shops…we had information that they had expired products on their shelves and they were selling to unsuspecting citizens,” he said.

“So, we went to the place, did inventory and found out that it was true. So, we seized all the drugs and handed them [owners of the shops] over to the police.

“The drugs had different expiration dates. From 2014 and 2015…because the drugs are expired, their efficacy, quality, and safety cannot be guaranteed, and we deem it unfit for human consumption.”
