East Mamprusi District Health Insurance Scheme pays all claims

Gambaga (NR), June 24, GNA - The management of East Mamprusi District Health Insurance Scheme has paid all outstanding claims submitted by its eight service providers for the first quarter of 2009. Mr Sulemana Elijah Abdulai, East Mamprusi District Scheme Manager who disclosed this to Ghana News Agency at Gambaga, said about GH¢293,455 was paid between January to April this year. He said last year, the scheme registered 27,749 clients and 16,351 of them had renewed their membership.

Mr Abdulai said between January to May this year, 7,013 new clients had been registered.

He noted that some service providers submitted their claims late, which caused undue delay in payment and advised them to submit their claims on time.

Mr Issahaku Abdul-Majeed, Claims Manager of the scheme, said the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) provided GH¢635,344 to the scheme as subsidy and reinsurance for this year but most of the money was used to pay for claims covering the last quarter of 2008. He said clients from other schemes in Upper East, West and Northern Regions patronised services of the Gambaga Baptist Medical Centre, the largest service provider to the scheme.

The scheme covers 133 communities and has 46 revenue collectors.
