Declare September as prostate awareness month - Medi-Moses to government

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Medi-Moses Prostate Medical Centre and overseer of the Medi-Moses Prostrate Foundation, Dr. Degaulle Moses Dogbatsey has appealed to government to declare the month of September as prostrate awareness month.

This he noted will help in creating awareness and educate people on prostate He made the appeal at a free prostate screening exercise for all men towards this year’s father’s day celebration under the theme: "Creating awareness about prostate illness; a collective goal for healthy growth and national development".

According to him, the level of prostate illness is increasing among men in Ghana hence the need to intensify efforts in reducing the growing rate of prostate enlargement among men.

Ghana is said to have the highest rate of prostate cancer in the whole world, with an estimated number of 921 new cases occurring every year, with 758 of them resulting in death.

An enlarged prostate means the gland has grown bigger. Prostate enlargement happens to almost all men as they get older.

An enlarged prostate is often called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It is not cancer, and it does not raise your risk for prostate cancer.

Symptoms of enlarged prostate can include: a weak or slow urinary; stream; a feeling of incomplete bladder emptying; Difficulty starting urination; Frequent urination; Urgency to urinate; Getting up frequently at night to urinate among others.

Dr. Medi-Moses underscored the need for men to be going regularly examination especially when they start experiencing these signs so the condition can be detected and treated.
