Clinic inaugurated at Gomoa Sampa

Gomoa Sampa(C/R), Aug. 29, GNA - An eighty thousand-Euro clinic funded by Mr Jerry Bedu-Aidoo, a citizen of Gomoa Sampa in the Central Region based in Heidelberg in Germany, has been inaugurated in the town. Speaking at the ceremony, he said the project was supported by the "Asase Club" he had established in Germany and Ms Eva Gropenbaecher, a German teacher who was installed as a Queen of Sampa under the stool name, Nana Eva Abena Tawiah.

Mr Bedu-Aidoo announced plans by the Club and the Queen to start a Biogas project to generate electricity from waste generated in the town for domestic and industrial use. He commended the people for using local materials in the construction of their buildings and urged them to continue with their communal spirit.

Nana Tawiah advised them to patronise the clinic to attract more German support for the development of the town and to unite to improve their standard of living.

Mr Bedu-Aidoo, Nana Tawiah and the Asase Club donated two sets of jerseys and solar lamp with a panel to the town. Nana Okrah Tawiah V, Sampahene, appealed to government to connect the area to the national grid since low-tension poles had been erected and wired in all the 14 communities in the Gomoa District popularly known as "the Far West".

Nana Okra Tawiah called for an increase in the number of Chiefs as Government Appointees in the District Assemblies to involve them more in decision-making and implementation in the localities. He appealed for the improvement of the road network and the extension of pipe-borne water to the town, the only one not served. Nana Okra Tawiah stated that even the school in the town was enjoying the feeding programme its staffing position was poor and called for an improvement to make it a Model School. Mr Edmund Osei Kwakye, District Disease Control Officer, advised communities and donor agencies to consult the District Directorate of Health Services for advice when they wanted to establish or support health facilities.

He appealed to the people to register with the District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme to enjoy affordable health-care. Mr. Joe Hackman, Member of Parliament for Gomoa West, announced his decision to provide schools with libraries to encourage school children in the area to improve their performance in the Basic Education Certification Examination (BECE) by cultivating the reading habit. Mr John Kobina Yamoah, District Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), advised other communities in the District to emulate the people of Sampa to attract support.
