Awutu-Effutu-Senya Mutual Health Insurance registers 66,000

Winneba (C/R), Aug. 9 GNA - The Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme has collected about 343 million cedis from 66,918 clients as premium out of the District's total population of about 189,000 people.

The District Chief Executive for the Area, Mr Solomon Abam-Quaye said this at the second meeting of the fourth session of the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly at Winneba on Tuesday. He said 10,958 clients had been registered and issued with identification cards to access free medical care at the Winneba Government Hospital and other State-owned health facilities in the District at the end of June.

Mr Abam-Quaye urged the Management of the Scheme to redouble its efforts to ensure that every qualified citizen enrolled with it. He appealed to them to issue ID cards to all registered persons. "Looking at the number so far registered, I wish to urge Assembly Members and Departmental Heads to support the registration drive across the length and breadth of the District."

On HIV/AIDS, the DCE said the Ghana AIDS Commission had signed an agreement with the Assembly to provide funding for three nongovernmental organisations 9NGOs) and five community based organisations (CBOs) to carry out public education on the harmful effect of the pandemic. The DCE entreated all and sundry to join in the fight against HIV/AIDS in the District.
