Man fined five million cedis for stealing

Tema, Sept. 26, GNA- The Tema Circuit Court 'A', has imposed a fine of five million cedis on Nicholas Nortey, electrician, for stealing personal items worth 47 million cedis, property of his cousin. Nortey pleaded not guilty and he will go to jail for five years if he fails to pay the fine.

Police Inspector Adolphus Otchere told the court that sometime in December last year, Nortey's cousin with whom he was putting up, was making preparations to attend a wedding ceremony.

Inspector Otchere said to her surprise, when the cousin took a box of jewelleries to make selection, she detected that a quantity of them had been stolen.

She suspected the accused person for stealing her items including three gold chains, gold bracelets, gold engagement rings, all valued at 47.7 million cedis.

Inspector Otchere said Nortey was therefore arrested but he denied stealing the items.
