Showcase thief jailed six months

A 23 year- old electrician, Kwadwo Fodjour, has been sentenced to six months imprisonment in hard labour by a Tarkwa Magistrate's Court for stealing a showcase valued at 400 Ghana cedis.

He pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Faustina Anaman told the court presided by Madam Gifty Cudjoe that the complainant is a trader at Layout, a suburb of Tarkwa and she deals in assorted recharge cards while the convict has no permanent place of abode.

She said around 12.00 midnight on October 12 this year, a witness in the case was heading towards the area where the complainant sells his recharge cards when he saw Fodjour carrying a show case near the Golden Pride Saving and Loans Bank at Nzemaline in Tarkwa.

Inspector Anaman said the witness suspected the show case was a stolen item and trailed the convict and got him arrested with the assistance of a passing by.

She said when Fodjour was questioned, he could not give any tangible explanation and he was sent to the police station together with the stolen item.

Inspector Anaman said around 8 .15 a.m. on that same day, the convict led the police to the scene where he committed the offense.

She said on their arrival at the scene, they saw the complainant busily searching for the show case which was stolen by the convict.

Inspector Anaman said the complainant told the police that she left the show case at the place where she sells the recharge cards the previous day but she could not find it the following day. She said after investigation, the convict was charged with the offense.
